Welcome to Verse Therapy a therapeutic poetry site

It has been created to provide a voice for an invisible minority who feel isolated, frustrated and unheard as they struggle with the pain of mental illness.

As we struggle with the emotions of the past and present we are not always able to find or recognise the words we want to express ourselves. As is often the case, poetry by the nature of its concentration of language, communicates those feelings and experiences that we are unable to articulate verbally .

Whether in therapy, counselling, or using self-help, I hope that visitors to this site will find an affirmity of shared experience through the voices of others. For those who submit, it is an acknowledgement and recognition of both the reality of their suffering and their creative empowerment through poetry.

I would like to thank contributing poets for their courage in rendering the invisibility of their private world visible in this public space.

E.D. Darling

We each arrive into the world needy to make sense of the environment in which we find ourselves. Like many scientists, babies use trial and error to construct views about themselves, others and the world. These early decisions are the implicit underpinning to adult understanding, and whilst they may have been useful in the original family, they may also be a hindrance in the here and now. I believe that each of us benefits from re-examining and re-evaluating our assumptions and our experiences. Poetry offers a vehicle, a bridge to the unconscious, an opportunity to be truly seen and understood by another.
