Janis

Best Female Performer, Brighton Fringe 2009

"maybe I won't last as long as other singers,
but I think you can destroy your now
by worrying about tomorrow"
Janis Joplin

" Beautiful...Haydn as Joplin captures the audience with an intriguing clash of insecurity and bravado"The Stage

"Janis gives an insight into those melodious ones lost at age 27, and the reasons in their destructive rhymes. It's a beauty, as was the lady in question" Fringe Report

The Landmark Hotel, California, October 4th 1970.

Join the iconic singer on the night her hedonistic lifestyle finally caught up with her, in this tribute to the glory of a legend and to the troubled women hiding behind it.

Nicola Haydn switches playfully between the singer's dual personalities: Pearl, the brassy alter ego; and Janis herself, the childlike, eternal misfit hiding beneath. By turns confessional and confrontational, she inventively reveals a life lived behind a mask.

"Perfectly formed... Rarely has a biographical play managed to caputre the spirit of someone so effectively, actually making the audience feel familiarity not just with the star and their reputation but with the person lurking below." Camden New Journal
